Moldovas Foreign Policy Statewatch: Construction of a liquefied natural gas terminal in the Giurgiulesti port could decrease Moldovas energy dependency
Moldova has lost over time, control over its own energy sector, its vulnerability is dexterously exploited by Russian Federation, which is hardly to persuade to reduce or at least to maintain prices, which are often subjected to periodic increases. As Republic of Moldova does not have enough leverage during negotiations on the price of imported gas from Russian monopolist, Moldovan authorities should focus on finding alternatives. A project that deserves attention is the transport of liquefied natural gas from Romania, Georgia and Azerbaijan. Thus, the Republic of Moldova should support the idea of construction of a liquefied gas terminal in the Giurgiulesti port.
