A number of foreign organizations are demanding from European structures to help stop intimidation of Moldovan non-governmental organizations by the Communist authorities and to protect the NGOs from the Moldovan Government's ill-treatment, the Pro Democratia Association (APD) wrote in a press release.
The press release, signed by Golos (Russia), GONG (Croatia), European House (Hungary) and Society for Democratic Culture (Albania), drew attention to the exhaustive treatment being put now on the members of the Civic Coalition for Free and Fair Elections, "Coalition 2009", who carried out a monitoring of the election campaign and stated that the 2009 parliamentary elections were not at all correct, and were held in only a partly free environment.
According to the APD, after a whole series of attacks undertaken by the Moldovan Ministry of Justice, the Communist authorities initiated a simultaneous tax check of several organizations the Coalition-2009 members, such as the League for Human Right Protection in Moldova (LADOM), the Institute of Public Policies, the Electronic Media Association (APEL), the Association for Participatory Democracy (ADEPT), the IDIS-Viitorul Institute for Development and Social Initiatives, the Independent Journalism Center, and the Association for promoting legal climics in Moldova.
"Without challenging the Moldovan authorities' right to carry out such checks within legal frames, we presume that a simultaneous check of seven organizations is an attempt to inimidate the Moldovan civil society", presume the document authors.
